Listed below are some natural techniques you could use as Home Remedies for Inflammation. Try these first before reaching for OTC medicines.

Natural Technique #1 - Essential Oils

Essential Oils Used Alone:

Single Oils: Frankincense, Helichrysum, Myrrh, Basil, Eucalyptus, Ginger, Lavender, Peppermint, Wintergreen, Cassia, Cinnamon, Clove, Geranium, Jasmine, Lemon, Oregano, Roman Chamomile, Thyme, Ylang Ylang, Blue Tansy, Cilantro, Citrus Oils, Clary Sage, Coriander, Fennel, Lemongrass, Melaleuca, Melissa, Patchouli, Rose, Sandalwood

Possible Blends: Citrus Blend, Soothing Blend, Massage Blend  (See Generic Name Comparison Chart)

Aromatic Application:

Use any of the oils mentioned on this page in a diffuser. 

Recipe #1

  • 4 T. sunflower seed oil
  • 15 d. rosemary essential oil
  • 15 d. eucalyptus essential oil
  • 15 d. peppermint essential oil
  • 15 d. frankincense essential oil
  • 15 d. myrrh essential oil
  • 8 d. geranium essential oil

Combine all oils and store in a dark glass container. Oil can be rubbed below the nose or the temples, or anywhere on the body where inflammation may be present.

Natural Technique #2 - Dietary Changes

Inflammation is regulated by a group of hormones called prostaglandins. You can affect these hormones for either good or ill through your dietary choices.  Especially by the kinds of fats you do and don't eat since the body makes prostaglandins from fatty acids.

Remove polyunsaturated vegetable oils and sources of trans-fatty acids from your diet if you suffer from any kind of chronic inflammatory disease. The typical oils in this list are: corn oil, soybean oil, sunflower oil, rice bran oil, grape seed oil and margarine. Make sure you get enough omega-3 fatty acids as found in salmon, sardines and other oily fish.  Another good source is flax seed and chia seed.

Two herbs that have anti-inflammatory properties are ginger and turmeric. Taken by capsule in their dry form is useful. You can also drink them in a tea or make some Golden Milk.

As always, your mother was right when she told you to eat your vegetables. Fruits and vegetables contain protective compounds. You may have to wait six to eight weeks to notice the results of these changes, but they will occur and will not be accompanied by any toxicity.
