Magnetic healing therapy has been around for over 100 years, but is just now gaining the spotlight in the United States. It is also referred to has Pulsed Electromagnetic Field therapy, or PEMF for short. Many people have only heard of it since last year when Dr. Oz dedicated one show to the explanation of such a treatment.
How Does PEMF Work?
Science teaches us that everything is energy, is always dynamic and has a frequency. All energy is electro-magnetic by nature - all atoms, chemicals and cells produce EMF's.
Every organ in the body produces it's own bio-electromagnetic field and all 70 trillion cells in the body communicate via electromagnetic frequencies. Nothing happens in the body without an electromagnetic exchange. When the electromagnetic activity of the body ceases, life ceases.
When an injury occurs and tissue is damaged, positively charged ion within the body move to the affected area, causing pain and swelling. For healing to take place, the injured site must be restored to its natural negative electromagnetic charge. Pain and inflammation must be removed and oxygen and nutrients transferred to this area.
The application of a magnetic field to an injured or dis-eased area helps restore the normal electromagnetic balance. While using a magnetic healing therapy device, the magnetic field relaxes capillary walls and surrounding muscle and connective tissues, allowing for increased blood flow and nutrients to the injured or dis-eased site promoting accelerated healing.
The best way to know is to try it for yourself. But in the meantime, here are the opinions of three medical doctors.
Dr. William Pawluk, MD, Assistant Professor at John Hopkins University School of Medicine, a leading expert on PEMF: "Having healthy cells is not a passive process. Active, regular tuning-up of our cell is... necessary to slow aging and reduce the risk of cell dysfunction. We are only as healthy as our cells. Fine tuning can be done in only minutes using Pulsed ElectroMagnetic Fields."
Dr. James Dillard, MD, renowned pain specialist on PEMF: "One in three Americans suffer from chronic pain. My patients are sick of taking shots, medications and surgery for pain... PEMF is new cutting edge research."
Dr. Mehmet Oz: (Pulsed ElectroMagnetic therapy) "is changing the practice of medicine...and is the best healing technology ever discovered... it is the revolutionary cure for pain."
Pulsed ElectroMagnetic Field (PEMF) therapy is FDA-approved to fuse bones and has been cleared in certain devices to reduce swelling and joint pain. Dr. Oz mentioned some of these clearances on his program. Along with PEMF therapy, there is also Transcranial Magnetic Stimulation (TMS) and Magnetic Resonance Imaging (MRI) which work on the same physics.
Keep in mind that a magnetic field does not change the chemistry of our body. A magnetic field acts on the most basic of biological functions - the cellular level. It's more physics than medicine, even so, the FDA has approved some PEMF devices, so we know that the FDA does approve of the use of electromagnetic fields for therapeutic use.
Magnetic healing therapy has been used in Europe for over a decade. It has finally come to America and is gaining popularity. It is approved as an FDA class one device, which means it is approved for the use of general health and well-being.
it is a little known fact that in 2009 NASA was awarded the US patent for Pulsed ElectroMagnetic Fields use to enhance tissue repair in mammals. Of course, this patent was issued only after extensive research was made to find methods that would reverse the bone loss which occurred in astronauts when they were in a gravity free environment and away from the earth's magnetic field.
Closely related to the NASA tissue repair patent, PEMF machines were also used to stimulate the growth of stem cells. The studies conducted by NASA made the conclusion that the use of a PEMF machine on humans resulted in:
These four factors are huge when recovering from an injury or operation as such events cause an inflammation response in our bodies. Remember, the FDA has already listed one possible use of magnetic healing therapy to be approved for post-operative pain and swelling.
