Home Remedies for Sinus Infection

home remedies for sinus infection

I had never searched the internet for "home remedies for sinus infection" due to my lack of faith in homeopathic cures. I didn't used to be a believer in home remedies for sinus infection or any other illness for that matter. My father tried to teach me about the benefits of herbs, yet I never took much stock in his words. I was just as happy to go to the doctor for all my ills, aches and pains.

Unfortunately, I am long time sufferer of chronic sinus infections.  It had been years since I could breathe normally.  Therefore, most of my days I felt completely stuffed up.  To make matters worse, it also gave me sinus headaches and the pressure build up was unbelievable. While sitting or standing, it was a struggle to breathe, but nothing like at night.

When I would lay down to rest or sleep, my nose would plug.  Within minutes, this prevented me from breathing regularly. Plus, I had the added nightmare of trying to wear a mask with my sleep apnea machine.  When I tried to sleep with my face at an angle, the mucus would run down and into my mask, making this a very poor option.  I eventually had to resort to sleeping upright in a chair. I was in desperate need of finding some home remedies for sinus infection.

Doctor Visits

I had tried many different medications, including antibiotics, thinking this would cure the problem.  The only time I found relief was when my family doctor gave me strong steroids.  That would last for all of two weeks; then the problem would return.  Eventually, I was told this was not an acceptable long term practice and would have to do something different.  So I set up an appointment with an ear, nose and throat specialist.

During this time, my wife began suggesting that I try therapeutic grade essential oils.  Since the appointment wasn’t for several weeks, and she had the oils on hand, I reluctantly relinquished to her request. This was my first adventure into the world of home remedies.

Starting to Get a Clue

After the first week of rubbing the oils on the bottoms of my feet both morning and night, I contracted a small rash around my upper arms.  I became concerned with my apparent negative reaction. But at the same time, there was noticeable relief of my sinus pressure.  Speaking to my wife's wellness consultant, I was told to lower my dose of oil and drink more water.  She clearly explained the toxins were trying to escape my body. I simply needed more liquid to help flush the toxins out through the proper channel.  Since that wasn’t happening, my skin was the bodies next choice from which to release these toxins, which is what caused the rash.

Taking her advice, I lowered the amount of oregano oil to about 2 drops per foot and continued with 3 to 4 drops of the other oils.  That did the trick and I never had another break out.  After a three week period, I no longer had a stuffy nose and could breathe upright and while lying on my back.  Man, what a relief that was!  The beauty of it all, I realized, was that I did not have to return to the doctor or see a specialist.  I had discovered for myself that home remedies for sinus infections were not only possible, but preferable. This wasn’t only a time and money saver, but was a healthier way of healing.  After suffering for several years (more so during the winter months), I finally found total sinus relief.

Our own bodies are wonderful at doing their job.  I just needed to give mine some building blocks, plus lots of water, to help it do what it does best. These home remedies for sinus infection worked out better than I ever thought possible.

Grateful for the Knowledge and Experience

It has been over a year now. I am grateful for the relief I experienced, thanks to my special blend of oils.  It is now November and I noticed some sinus stuffiness starting a couple weeks ago.  So last night I started the oil treatment again.  I have been told oils are not medicine. They don’t cure anything.   Well, okay.  All I know is that I used the oils, and they were the only source I have found for total chronic sinus congestion relief.

I speak with thankfulness that I now have the knowledge, ability and resources to naturally treat my sinus infection.  The essential oils made all the difference in the world.

I never thought I would use some weird home remedies for sinus infection.  Not only did I find them and use them, I am now a believer in other natural remedies as well. I wish my dad was here to see me now!

OPTION 1: Start with two drops of Oregano on the bottoms of each foot.  Layer three to four drops of the other oils any order thereafter. This allows you to adjust the amount of Oregano either up or down as needed.

OPTION 2: Mix three drops of each into a separate bottle.  Shake well. Apply to the bottoms of your feet 2 or 3 times a day.
